"China expressed 'deep concern' on Tuesday over the recent drone strike near Barakah nuclear facility in Abu Dhabi, urging all countries to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all Gulf nations in the region. "China always believes that the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Gulf States should be earnestly respected, and civilians and non-military assets should be protected," said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Guo Jiakun during a press briefing in Beijing. The Abu Dhabi Media Office said on Sunday that local authorities responded to a fire in an electrical generator located outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra region. Officials said the fire was caused by a drone strike, but did not provide further details on the origin of the strike. Ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's high-stakes visit to Beijing, Guo said that China hopes the visit would deepen friendly ties between the peoples of both nations. "We have every confidence that under the strategic guidance of President Xi and President Putin, China-Russia ever-lasting friendship will enjoy even greater popular support and the youth in both countries will join hands and inject fresh vitality into our comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era," he stated. He also dismissed as 'completely false' a Financial Times report claiming that Chinese officials had told their US counterparts that President Vladimir Putin might come to 'regret' the conflict in Ukraine. Putin will be on an official state visit to China from May 19-20, during which he is expected to hold high-stakes talks with President Xi Jinping. The meeting coincides with the 25th anniversary of the landmark Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation. To celebrate the milestone, the two leaders will attend a ceremony marking the official launch of the Russia-China Years of Education for 2026–2027. The high-profile meeting comes less than a week after US President Donald Trump concluded his own state visit to China."
