Merz has chosen to break with this 'naivety'! - Bardella slams Merkel over migration policies as former German chancellor receives EU's Merit of Honour

"French MEP and National Rally leader Jordan Bardella criticised former German Chancellor Angela Merkel's migration policies, in Strasbourg on Tuesday, as she received the EU's Honour of Merit. "She bears a very heavy responsibility as the former chancellor of Germany for the destabilisation of Europe," Bardella said. He added that he wanted the former chancellor to acknowledge what he called a 'mistake' in her policy. "If we come to power in the country, on the issue of immigration, we believe that France should have the final word," he said. Earlier, Bardella said he was ready to partner with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on several issues including migration. "I see common ground with Chancellor Merz on the issue of reducing bureaucracy and the need to build a competitive Europe," Bardella said in an interview. The National Rally president also criticised the European Commission for its 'double discourse' over its recent push to relaunch nuclear energy, despite its directives supporting renewable energy. "It has notably inspired the latest multiannual energy programme in France. As a result, the French government, subject to these guidelines, stacks up intermittent production capacities, which place an increasing strain on the entire French electricity grid," he said. This comes as Germany's former chancellor Angela Merkel received the European Order of Merit Award for making 'significant contributions to European integration' and to the defence of 'democracy and values'. Merkel received the award alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and former Polish president Lech Walesa."
