"President Claudia Sheinbaum accused the United States government of not extraditing any of the 269 individuals requested by Mexico in the last eight years for crimes related to organized crime. According to the president, the Mexican government has sent extradition requests to the United States as part of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, but none of them have been granted, as she reported this Tuesday in her morning conference in Mexico City. "269 extradition requests were made from January 2018 to May 13, 2026, to the United States. 269 extradition requests. How many have been delivered to Mexico? None," she stated. Sheinbaum detailed that the requests include the extradition of former governors and individuals involved in serious cases, such as the disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa students in September 2014. "There are very serious cases for Mexico: invoice fraudsters, former governors accused of organized crime, Ayotzinapa. None of these alleged criminals have been delivered to Mexico," she accused. In light of this, the president questioned why the U.S. government has not responded to the requests made. "What does Mexico always ask for? At least we ask for reciprocity. Why haven't they delivered any, if they are relevant cases, if there is reciprocity?" she expressed. According to the information presented at the conference, of the 269 requests, 39 were denied and 233 remain pending. Sheinbaum explained that the extraditions have not been carried out because the United States claims there is not enough evidence to hand over the requested individuals. These data were presented following the requests that the United States made to Mexico for the provisional arrest for extradition purposes of Rubén Rocha Moya, the licensed governor of Sinaloa, and nine other officials accused of having alleged links with the Sinaloa Cartel."
