ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening relations with the United Kingdom, describing the two countries as long-standing strategic partners. Speaking with UK National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell, Sharif conveyed his best wishes to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and recalled a cordial telephone conversation between the two leaders last month, in which both expressed a shared desire to further consolidate bilateral ties. Powell welcomed Pakistan’s constructive role in regional diplomacy, particularly its efforts to promote negotiations and reduce tensions, and highlighted the British government’s recognition of these contributions. He also congratulated the prime minister on his government’s economic reforms and expressed London’s interest in expanding cooperation in security, trade, investment, and development. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Foreign Secretary Amina Baloch, and Secretary of the National Security Division Sajid Baloch.
