Prosecutors have sought an arrest warrant for Kim Se-ui, head of the YouTube channel HoverLab (GaroSero Institute), over allegations that he spread false claims about actor Kim Soo-hyun in connection with the death of late actress Kim Sae-ron. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office said Wednesday that it requested the warrant on charges including distributing illegally filmed material under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes and defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act. Kim is accused of spreading false claims through YouTube broadcasts that Kim Soo-hyun had dated Kim Sae-ron while she was a minor and that pressure from the actor’s side to repay debts directly led to her death. Prosecutors also said Kim was accused of damaging Kim Soo-hyun’s reputation by allegedly using generative artificial intelligence (AI) to manipulate Kim Sae-ron’s voice and fabricate information.
