Putin says 6 killed in Ukrainian drone attack on college building

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that six people died as a result of a Ukrainian drone strike targeting educational buildings and a student dormitory in the Luhansk region, reported Xinhua. "The strike was not an accident," Putin said during a meeting with graduates of the first cohort of the "Time of Heroes" program. "There are no military facilities, security service sites or related agencies near the dormitory." Fifteen people remain unaccounted for as rubble-clearing is still underway, Putin said. A large-scale overnight drone assault hit the campus of Starobelsk College, affiliated with Luhansk Pedagogical University, causing the collapse of a student dormitory building, Russia's Emergency Ministry said. Eighty-six students aged 14 to 18, along with one staff member, were inside the building at the time of the strike. Forty people have sought medical assistance following the attack, including 14 minors, regional Health Minister Natalia Paschenko told local media. "The five-storey building collapsed down to its second floor," said Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for the Investigative Committee of Russia. Russia's Ministry of Education has dispatched specialists to provide emergency psychological support to survivors and affected individuals at the college. Ukraine has not yet commented on the attack.
