"Mourners bid farewell to police officers killed in an alleged Israeli strike in the Al-Tawam area in northern Gaza on Saturday Footage shows responders and loved ones carrying the bodies, while others injured can be seen being admitted to the hospital. The Palestinian Ministry of the Interior and National Security announced in a statement that "five police officers and personnel” were killed when an “Israeli aircraft bombed a police post in the Al-Tawam area north of Gaza." The ministry said that 42 police personnel have now been killed since the ceasefire agreement came into effect in October last year. Israel had not commented on the alleged strike at the time of publication. War between Israel and Hamas broke out on October 7, 2023, following attacks carried out by Hamas which resulted in the deaths of 1,139 people, most of them Israeli civilians, and the abduction of more than 200 others. Last January, US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff announced the launch of the second phase of Trump's 20-point plan to end the conflict in Gaza, which includes moving from a ceasefire to disarmament, forming a technocratic administration, and the beginning of reconstruction works.
