"The United States carried out an evacuation drill at its embassy in Caracas on Saturday, which included the landing of two US Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey aircraft inside the diplomatic compound. Footage filmed on Saturday shows the US aircraft flying over the Venezuelan capital and landing at the facilities located in a mountainous area of the city. Fire trucks and ambulances were also seen entering the compound, along with the deployment of local security personnel, as part of “routine diplomatic security and protection protocols,” according to the Venezuelan Government. According to the US Embassy, the action aims to “ensure the military’s rapid response capability” at the site. It also noted that the drill is part of a plan proposed by President Donald Trump for Venezuela following the military operation that resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro. US authorities also reported that the head of the United States Southern Command, General Francis L. Donovan, and a contingent of service members were transported aboard the aircraft that took part in the exercise. In recent months, bilateral relations have shifted from a complete rupture between the two countries to close cooperation on security, energy and diplomacy, with oil at the center of negotiations."
