"Belgrade police clashed with anti-government demonstrators on Saturday as thousands gathered in the Serbian capital. Footage from the scene shows riot police confronting protesters in central Belgrade, with several demonstrators being detained as crowds rallied under a heavy security presence. Special police units, including gendarmerie forces were seen using tear gas and charging masked protesters as tensions escalated. Some demonstrators were seen throwing objects including bottles toward security forces. The movement began on November 1, 2024, after a railway station disaster in Novi Sad, where a concrete canopy collapsed, killing 16 people. Students and members of the public blame the disaster on ‘corruption-fueled’ negligence. The government has said it was addressing those concerns, calling for dialogue with the demonstrators - and has accused Western nations of inflaming the situation and attempting to trigger a 'colour revolution'."
