Bannu clashes - Troops, civilians hospitalised after heavy fighting between Pakistani forces and TTP militants leave 13 dead

"Several police officers were rushed to hospital in Bannu District, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, after heavy clashes between Pakistani forces and fighters from the militant group Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP) killed at least 13 people, including one civilian. Footage shows residents gathered outside the District Headquarters Teaching Hospital, while injured victims crowd the hospital wards as medical staff work to treat the influx of patients. "Until now, we have received 2 dead bodies and 6 injured, among these 6, five are police and one child who was also injured there. We have given them immediate medical help here in District Headquarters Bannu. Emergency has been imposed in all three hospitals, and the injured are being treated well," said Dr Muhammad Nauman, spokesman for DHQ Hospital. Tensions escalated after TTP militants clashed with police and civilian Peace Committee members near the residential area of Barakzai Akhundkhel. At least 12 fighters were killed by Pakistani forces, according to reports. Hostilities between the Pakistani military and TTP remain high following a large-scale border clash in February, which erupted after forces launched airstrikes against Taliban safe havens in Afghanistan. Pakistan accuses Kabul of harbouring members of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, a claim the Taliban authorities deny."
