"The United States conducted an evacuation drill at its embassy in Caracas on Saturday, involving the landing of two US Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey aircraft inside the diplomatic compound. Footage shows the aircraft flying over the capital before landing at the embassy compound. Fire trucks, ambulances and security personnel were also seen entering the compound. Venezuelan authorities described the drill as "routine diplomatic security and protection protocols." The US Embassy said the exercise intended to "ensure the military's rapid response capability," as part of a plan proposed by President Donald Trump following the US's capture of Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro early this year. US officials also reported that the head of the United States Southern Command, General Francis L Donovan, and a contingent of service members were transported aboard the participating aircraft. The operation forms part of broader US-Venezuela engagement efforts, with both sides increasingly coordinating on security, energy and diplomatic issues, including negotiations centred on Venezuela's oil sector."
