A fire that started on a fourth-floor balcony spread through the roof of an apartment building in Helsinki’s Kalasatama district on Saturday night, forcing evacuations and causing major damage across several floors. Rescue services received the alarm shortly before 9pm local time at an apartment block on Leonkatu. Witnesses reported flames rising from a balcony before the fire moved into the roof structures within minutes. Thick smoke spread across the area and drew large crowds onto nearby streets and balconies.
