MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday paid his respects to instructor pilot First Lieutenant Ruth Angelique Pasos and aviation student Second Lieutenant Cherky Embudo, the two Philippine Air Force (PAF) pilots who perished in a crash in Tuba, Benguet last May 20. In photos shared by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Marcos personally visited the PAF Mortuary in Villamor Airbase in Pasay City to express his sympathies to Pasos’ and Embudo’s families and lauded their heroism, dedication, and loyal service to the nation. The Commander-in-Chief awarded the posthumous Silver Wing Medal to Pasos and Embudo in recognition of their sacrifice, bravery, and service to the nation. Pasos and Embudo were aboard the SF-260 trainer plane on a navigation training flight last Wednesday when it crashed in Sitio Cabuyao while en route to Baguio City. The ill-fated aircraft was part of a group of 11 SF-260 trainer aircraft that took off from the Fernando Air Base in Lipa City, Batangas for a training mission.
