"Heavy rainstorms have triggered severe flooding in southern China's Yangjiang, causing water levels in the Moyang River to rise rapidly and inundate surrounding neighbourhoods. Footage from Sunday shows floodwaters overflowing riverbanks and spilling into nearby roads, with residents using inflatable boats to navigate submerged streets as emergency teams worked to drain residential areas. The city experienced heavy rainfall on May 20, with some districts recording extremely intense precipitation that led to flash floods and widespread waterlogging. Authorities raised the flood-control emergency response to Level III as conditions worsened, citing the intensity and scale of the rainfall and growing pressure on emergency services. According to reports, nearly 10,000 people have been evacuated as a precaution in affected areas across Yangjiang, with rescue and relief operations continuing. Hekou Town in Yangchun recorded exceptionally high rainfall, described as unusually intense even by national standards, contributing to the rapid rise in river levels."
