Cardio in the capital! - Record 77,000 athletes cruise through Moscow in Spring Cycling Festival

"Moscow's Spring Cycling Festival, dedicated to the Year of the Russian Peoples' National Unity, drew a record-breaking crowd on Sunday, attracting more than 77,000 people. Footage shows thousands of cycling enthusiasts riding along the Garden Ring, which was closed to traffic for the occasion. Some participants even brought their pets along for the ride. "There are participants from St Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Veliky Novgorod, Tver, Vladimir, Tula. We are very happy to welcome all the participants here in Moscow," said Moscow Deputy Mayor for Transport and Industry Maxim Liksutov. Cyclist Marat Nesipov said his unusual festival costume had been inspired by a character from a Japanese video game. "I chose it three years ago. My name is Marat. Well, I kind of connected it with Mario. And I really liked this game character because my childhood was, how should I put it? Associated with the 'Mario' game. [...] Stylistically, it suits me," he shared. Festival participant Evgenia Savchenko said that she joined the event alongside her pomeranian dog. "There's also another dog coming, we are cycling with two dogs. Of course, they like it. They're our friends, they're with us all the time," she added. Cycling enthusiasts from various Russian regions covered a distance of 16 kilometres, starting from Akademika Sakharova Avenue. According to organisers, the Russian Records Book representatives recognised the festival as the largest cycling event in the country."
