Historic first! Philippine military, civilian agencies unite for milestone defence drills in Davao Oriental

"The coastal waters of Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental, hosted a groundbreaking unified defence drill for the first time, bringing together the Philippine military, local governments, and civilian agencies. Footage shows soldiers participating in the drills, including intense live-fire scenarios with artillery units and tactical teams engaged in simulated targets offshore. Davao Oriental Governor Nelson Dayanghirang Sr. can also be seen actively taking part in the live-fire segments. Lt Aldrin M Felipe, the ACoy Battery Commander of the Philippine Army’s 2nd Field Artillery Battalion, emphasised the drill's significance in bridging essential gaps between military planning and local government execution. "The purpose of this exercise is to see the preparedness of the different units of the AFP in interoperability, readiness, and cohesiveness," Felipe stated. He also highlighted the involvement of LGUs in ensuring a collaborative response in the event of an invasion. Meanwhile, Dayanghirang emphasised the shared responsibility of national defence, calling it an 'advantage for civilians' to be informed and prepared for 'any potential future eventualities'. The multi-agency exercise took place from May 16 to 24, uniting the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine National Police (PNP), Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and local government units (LGUs). Its primary objective was to test large-scale territorial defense capabilities and evaluate how national defense forces can integrate with local civilian infrastructure during national emergencies."
