"Eight villages across several districts in Pati, Central Java, were seen submerged after days of persistent flooding, with water levels reaching up to one metre in some areas. Drone footage shows residential neighbourhoods, with flooded homes, roads and farmland, while residents move through submerged streets. “It has been going on for three days,” said flood victim Ulil. “Yesterday the water started to go down, but then it rose again.” He added that living conditions have deteriorated, particularly for children. “The water causes itching, and many children are suffering from skin irritation,” he said. Officials also pointed to reduced river capacity due to sedimentation in the Widodaren river basin and surrounding waterways. “We hope for attention and support from the local government,” said Ismail, a village secretary, calling for improved drainage management and infrastructure support. Flooding is a recurring problem in parts of the district, with some areas experiencing inundation dozens of times per year during the rainy season."
