"Iranian cleric and member of the Assembly of Experts Ahmad Khatami hit out at US President Donald Trump, describing him as a 'madman' while delivering an Eid Al-Adha sermon in Tehran. Footage shows worshippers supplicating and performing prayers before listening to the Eid sermon, while hoisting Iranian flags and signs. "Your enemies and this madman [Trump] in the Black House, which is wrongly called the White House, want your humiliation, and this madman will take this humiliation to the grave. He is lying; his story is not a story of negotiation, his story is one of surrender," Khatami said. Eid al-Adha, the 'Feast of Sacrifice', commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his willingness to sacrifice his son to God, before God provided a ram in his place. It is marked by the ritual sacrifice of a sheep, goat or cow, with the meat divided between family, friends and those in need. The United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28. Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was later confirmed dead, with his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, named as his successor. Tehran responded with attacks on Israel and other targets in the region. On April 8, Trump announced a temporary ceasefire with Iran to allow negotiations aimed at ending the conflict. Pakistan-mediated talks between the United States and Iran were held in Islamabad on April 11 but ended without a breakthrough. Since then, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has remained restricted, while the US Navy has maintained pressure on Iranian ports and shipping despite the ceasefire."
