"Hundreds of worshippers gathered on Wednesday morning in the Bozola district of Bamako to mark Eid al-Adha, known locally as Tabaski, as Mali observed the religious holiday despite security concerns. Footage shows families arriving at mosques near the main prayer grounds, with security present as a precaution in the district which has seen months of unrest that affected parts of the capital. Bamako remained calm during the morning prayers, as men, women, and children dressed in new clothes filled the streets and mosques to fulfil one of Islam’s most important rituals. “Given the situation in the country, it is normal to consider this security measure. It is not special, as this measure exists every year,” said mosque protocol officer Lahaou Toure. “There has never been any incident here. But we pray that worshippers return home safely.” “We pray for unity in our country. Let us stand together and show the world that we are one,” said local resident Amadou Kuma Niare. “Certainly, we're challenged, but we keep the faith and remain on the path of God and His Prophet.” Others acknowledged the hardship but said faith remained central to enduring the situation. “Certainly, we are celebrating in difficult times, but this is the nature of life itself,” said worshipper Boubacar Sang. “We leave everything to the mercy of God.” Griot Bourama Soumano said Malians were enduring hardship in the hope of a better future, stressing that “a choice has been made: to suffer today for a better tomorrow.” Security developments in the country continue to shape the backdrop of daily life, with reports of ongoing clashes involving militant groups in different regions, with Russia’s Africa Corps operating alongside Malian government forces to restore order. In late April, the Africa Corps helped foil an attempted coup by armed groups linked to the Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) group and the Azawad Liberation Front. The attacks saw Malian Defence Minister Sadio Camara killed by a suicide bomb and another 16 people injured."
