"Hundreds marched through La Paz on Mother's Day on Wednesday to protest fuel shortages, rising food prices and the economic and political crisis affecting Bolivia. Footage shows demonstrators marching through downtown La Paz carrying banners, Bolivian flags, and chanting against the government, denouncing deteriorating living conditions and the lack of responses to inflation and the rising cost of basic household goods. "Bolivia is in mourning because they are declaring war on the working class, on the class that represents and makes this country move forward," said protester Carolina Sanchez. In recent weeks, protests against President Rodrigo Paz have intensified due to fuel shortages and queues at petrol stations, as well as shortages and rising prices of essential products such as meat and chicken. The situation has raised concern among various social and economic sectors. "If bread prices go up, if gasoline prices go up, if transportation fares go up, that means less food for the people. People are not mobilising because they want a government job (...) They are mobilising because we are tired of being lied to," said another participant. The protesters also criticised the government for failing to fulfill campaign promises and warned about growing public discontent. They argued that he came to power thanks to their votes, while they can also remove him from power. "He has to understand that he absolutely must work with his people, that is why he is sitting in the presidential chair (...) Just as we put him in that chair, we will take him down as well," said vendor Rosmery Cano. So far, Bolivian authorities have not announced new concrete measures to stop the protests, while roadblocks and demonstrations continue in different parts of the country demanding immediate economic solutions."
