Mexico maintains nearly 80,000 naval elements deployed amid pressure from the United States to intervene in its territory.

"The Mexican Navy announced this Wednesday that it maintains an operational force of 79,204 naval personnel strategically deployed in the Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and the interior of the country, to ensure surveillance and response capability throughout the national territory. The institution reported that 130 ships, 121 boats, 45 helicopters, 47 planes, nine unmanned aerial systems, 99 drones, and anti-drones are currently deployed, strengthening security in ports, coasts, and strategic areas of the country. It also detailed that through Special Forces Operations and Naval Intelligence, operations have been carried out against various criminal organizations. The announcement comes amid pressure from Washington for Mexico to allow U.S. agents to accompany Mexican military in anti-narcotics operations and to deploy drones with attack capabilities in national territory. This Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth declared in a meeting with President Donald Trump that his country "is going to war against the cartels through the American Coalition Against the Cartels," an alliance of 17 Latin American countries in which Mexico is not included. For her part, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has reiterated her refusal to allow direct intervention, stating that there will be collaboration but without subordination."
