Dino-mite dessert - Visitors dig into Jurassic chocolate delights at ROK’s T-rex themed cafe

"A new dessert is captivating social media and drawing massive crowds to the historic Haenggung-dong neighbourhood in Suwon, northwestern South Korea. The main attraction at this viral hotspot, the Rexpresso Museum, a dinosaur-themed café, is their unique dessert: the ‘T-REX TIRAMI,’ playfully dubbed ‘Tyrannomisu.’ Priced at 13,000 won (US$9), this unique creation invites diners to channel their inner archaeologist. Footage captured on Thursday shows the dessert, featuring a meticulously crafted, 3D-molded dark chocolate T-Rex skull resting on a bed of cocoa powder. Instead of traditional cutlery, customers use a miniature metal shovel spoon to crack open the chocolate skull and excavate the rich, espresso-soaked layers of creamy tiramisu hidden within. “It’s a combination of a natural history museum and a reptile shop styled like a research lab. The idea came from our founder, a dinosaur enthusiast, and my background as a zookeeper at Everland (the country’s largest zoo). Together, we brought this vision to life,” said managing director of Rexpresso Museum Cho In-ho. Cho added, “Many people have imagined, after watching films like Jurassic Park, what it would be like to see dinosaurs in real life. So, we created this space as a tribute to that idea, appealing to all ages. We built a life-size T-Rex skeleton and included reptiles and amphibians, allowing visitors to explore as if they’re on a small adventure.” The cafe is designed as an immersive palaeontology laboratory, complete with a massive, life-sized T-Rex skeleton replica that encourages visitors to snap selfies. This unique concept reflects a growing trend of visually striking cafes in South Korea, aimed at attracting social media attention. “I saw this place on Instagram Reels and decided to visit. I’ve been interested in dinosaurs since I was young, and thought it would be a great place for a date, so I came with my girlfriend. The tiramisu didn’t stand out in photos, but in person, it looks much better—very chocolatey and detailed. It looks really delicious,” said visitor Shin Yoo-seop. Their signature dessert, the ‘Tyrannomisu,’ is crafted with decaffeinated ingredients so children can enjoy it as well."
