"Israeli permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) Danny Danon condemned the 'outrageous decision' by the international body to list Israel as a perpetrator of sexual violence in conflict zones in a video address from New York on Thursday. "The Secretary General and his team continue to spread lies against Israel, to put us and Hamas terrorists on the same list. That's unacceptable. We are a strong democracy," he stated. "We invited the representatives of the UN to come to Israel to check those ridiculous allegations. They chose not to come. They chose to continue with the campaign against Israel. We saw the light in the New York Times, and now we see another light coming from the UN. We are done with this Secretary-General," Danon continued. Earlier the representative announced that Israel will cease 'cooperating' with the current Secretary-General Antonio Guterres until the new one is elected and together they will ‘correct this injustice’. In August 2025, Guterres placed Israel 'on notice' over allegations of sexual violence by Israeli armed and security forces, including claims involving Palestinian detainees, allegations Israel rejected as baseless. The UN has also cited 'reasonable grounds to believe' sexual violence occurred during the Hamas-led October 7 attacks, with 'clear and convincing information' that some hostages taken to Gaza were subjected to sexual violence in captivity. Guterres' term is due to end on December 31, 2026."
