'We have crossed the Litani River!' - Netanyahu confirms as Israeli forces advance towards south Lebanon

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the IDF has crossed the Litani River, advancing further towards southern Lebanon. "Our forces have crossed the Litani; they have ascended to the commanding heights," he stated. "We are also operating in Beirut, operating in the Bekaa across the entire front, and they are striking Hezbollah," Netanyahu continued. The prime minister emphasised that this move was 'not just a passing remark' from defence leaders, adding: "In every engagement, we are both eliminating Hezbollah and sending them fleeing." "This spirit is what gives us these achievements. I salute you [...] Continue with great success all the way to the end," he concluded. This comes amid reported strikes in the southern Beirut area since the ceasefire announcement on April 17. Earlier on Wednesday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported 3,269 people have been killed and 9,840 others wounded since the war began on March 2. On April 15, Donald Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. The truce was later extended for three weeks following talks hosted by Washington, before another 45-day extension was announced in mid-May. Meanwhile, the Israeli army has designated what it calls the 'Yellow Line' in southern Lebanon, restricting residents from returning to certain areas under its control. This measure is part of a tactic previously used in the Gaza Strip, where it designates areas under its control within ceasefire agreements and prevents civilians from entering them. Israel has indicated it intends to establish a 'security zone' inside Lebanese territory stretching from the border to the Litani River, an area equivalent to around ten per cent of the country. The exact date and location of the footage cannot be independently verified. "
