THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced Friday that Tropical Storm “Jangmi” has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) under the localized name “Domeng.” In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the weather bureau said that “Domeng” is less likely to make landfall, as it is moving northwestward until Sunday before turning north-northwestward to northward for the remaining forecast period. As of its 11 a.m. bulletin, the storm slightly intensified as it moved northwestward into the Philippine Sea. The center of the storm was estimated at 1,265 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon, moving northwestward at 15 kph with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph. It is expected to leave PAR on Monday. While unlikely to hit land, a southwesterly windflow enhanced by “Domeng” could bring heavy rains over western portions of the country on Sunday. No storm signals were up as of press time. “Domeng will continue to intensify and may reach typhoon category tomorrow while remaining over the Philippine Sea. Afterwards, it will steadily weaken,” Pagasa said.
