JI, JUI-F reject proposed Abraham Accords

ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) have agreed that the proposed Abraham Accords with Israel should not be accepted in any case as the move is simply designed to recognize Israel as state. The development came here on Friday when JI chief made a telephone call to the JI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to extend Eid-ul-Adha greetings to him, a statement issued by JI media cell said. According to the statement both the leaders held detailed discussions on the country’s political situation. Both leaders stressed that the government should adopt a clear and unequivocal policy on Palestine and reject the Abraham Accords. They also agreed to build greater pressure on the government through a joint stance on the Palestine issue, so that Pakistan remains committed to its principled position. On the other hand, the Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif also telephoned JI chief to extend Eid-ul-Adha greetings and take him into confidence on latest national political and international developments, particularly with connection to the Middle East crisis. Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman also conveyed Eid greetings to the Prime Minister and his family. During the telephonic conversation, the two leaders exchanged views in detail on the national and international situation especially Middle East crisis. PM Shehbaz Sharif briefed Rehman on the latest developments in the negotiations between Iran and the United States, as well as the prevailing regional situation. On the occasion, the Jamaat-e-Islami chief urged the government to immediately reduce the prices of petroleum products and electricity in order to provide relief to citizens burdened by rising inflation. Separately, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman also spoke by telephone with PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser.
