MANILA, Philippines — The Leyte bleeding-heart, a subspecies that had remained undocumented for more than a century, has been photographed in the forests of Leyte, providing the first publicly known contemporary evidence of its existence. A photograph of the Leyte bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba crinigera leytensis) was obtained in the Leyte Sab-a Basin Peatland (LSBP) hydrological unit and may constitute the first documented sighting of the subspecies on the island in more than 100 years.
