"German Defence Chief Carsten Breuer warned that Russia could increase its capabilities to launch a conventional attack on NATO territory by 2029 while speaking at the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Saturday. "We have to get everything right until 2029. This does not mean that there will be an attack, but from a military perspective and in worst-case scenario thinking, we have to make sure," he said. Breuer also stressed that defence preparedness includes planning for capabilities as far ahead as 2035 or 2039. 'If we are doing this, then out of my perspective, warfare will have changed. We will face a complete revolution in military affairs," he added. Russia has repeatedly rejected these warnings, calling suggestions of a future Russian attack on NATO 'complete nonsense'. On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed claims by European leaders that Russia was preparing for war with the EU, describing these as 'a blatant, brazen lie.' Running from May 29-31, the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue is Asia's premier defence summit, bringing together defence ministers, military chiefs, and senior government officials from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond for open debate on regional security challenges and bilateral talks aimed at defusing geopolitical tensions."
