"Urban artists created a massive mural in the municipality of Ecatepec along the Mexico–Pachuca highway, one of the main access routes connecting to Mexico City, as part of preparations to welcome visitors for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Footage shows the artists on boom lifts and scaffolding while painting on parts of the mural. The artwork can be seen bearing colors of the Mexican flag while also featuring several iconic elements of the country's national identity, such as the eagle and serpent, masked wrestlers, and indigenous people. "We are creating a mural to welcome the migrants and visitors who will be coming because of the upcoming World Cup, so they can see what Mexican folklore is all about," artist Oswaldo Riveros remarked. Another artist, Ivan Oveja, added that football has always been part of Mexican culture. "I grew up in a family that is really passionate about soccer," he continued. 'It's a tradition that we grow up with from a very young age." Other artists involved in the mural said that sharing their knowledge and culture with World Cup visitors represents a valuable opportunity to expand understanding and promote cultural exchange among the many countries that will gather in the Mexican capital. The 2026 World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19 across Canada, Mexico, and the United States."
