The capital is ready to go! - Thousands of athletes join Moscow race as part of 'Green Marathon'

"Thousands of runners and visitors took part in the Sberbank-organised 'Green Marathon' charity run on Moscow’s Vasilyevsky Spusk on Saturday. Footage shows the athletes running through the Russian capital’s centre and crossing the finish line before participating in the awards ceremony. "There’s a really cool run here, and it’s brilliant to start right from this spot. The views are amazing, and the run itself is absolutely brilliant. It’s smooth, with hardly any bumps," shared Sofia, the winner of the women’s race. Rinas Akhmadeev achieved the best result among the men. He had high praise for the competition, particularly the course markings. "I’d particularly like to commend the organisers for having laid out the kilometre markers so clearly. This is something other organisers often fail to provide at such large-scale events; given that GPS reception is very poor here, it’s important to know what pace to aim for. That is why these markers are so important for the athletes," the man highlighted. This year marked the 13th edition of the 'Green Marathon', which brought together participants from 60 Russian cities. Athletes took part in races of 21.1, 10 and 4.2 kilometres. One of the event's new features was its musical format, with musicians and DJs supporting participants along the route. All funds raised during the marathon will be donated to the 'Contribution to the Future' charity to support inclusive education for orphans and children with special needs."
