TACLOBAN CITY- Borongan City in Eastern Samar recorded a heat index of 52 degrees Celsius on Saturday, May 30, the highest recorded heat index in the city so far this year and the highest among all monitoring stations in Eastern Visayas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). The heat index reading placed Borongan under the “extreme danger” category, a level that poses a serious threat to public health and may lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke with prolonged exposure.
