'Security in Eurasia should be solved by Eurasian countries' - SCO SecGen outlines organisation's visions, calls for a democratic, multipolar world order

"Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Nurlan Yermekbayev, said that member states acknowledge the need to establish a new Eurasian architecture to address security issues. This was said at the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue event in Singapore on Saturday. "The most issues of security in Eurasia should be solved by Eurasian countries," Yermekbayev said during a session on 'Addressing cross-regional security threats'. SCO head added that the bloc believes that socio-economic issues are indispensable in order to combat terrorism in the region. He also reiterated SCO commitment for an inclusive, democratic and multipolar world order. Outlining the organisation's vision, Yermekbayev explained that the SCO is improving its security systems to counter growing threats in the region. "We are modernising the overall system of countering challenges and threats, and the regional anti-terrorist structure will be a universal centre for countering challenges and threats," he added. Running from May 29–31, the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue is Asia’s premier defence summit, bringing together defence ministers, military chiefs, and senior government officials from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond to discuss regional security challenges and bilateral talks aimed at defusing geopolitical tensions across the Indo-Pacific."
