"Residents of Deir ez-Zor urged the government and humanitarian organisations to intervene as Euphrates River water level ridge flooded vast territories in eastern Syria. Footage taken on Saturday shows residential areas and roads flooded, with locals wading and driving, as well as clearing debris. "We've become an island surrounded by water on all sides; the river has completely encircled us. This is the entrance to Al-Hawija, and it is under threat at any moment. We are currently in a full-blown state of emergency, and we do not know what will happen," said Khaled, an Al-Hawija resident. Another local, Mohammed Salem appealed to authorities, saying: "Al-Hawija is at risk of flooding; residents have left their homes, but their belongings remain behind. We need machinery and equipment, such as bulldozers and excavators, or any resources that can help us." According to local media reports, Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management responders are continuing to deal with the flooding consequences in Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa governorates. In turn, Directorate of Social Affairs and Labour in Deir ez-Zor announced the deployment of a new shelter centre for residents affected by the rise in the Euphrates water level. Syrian transitional government's Ministry of Energy stated that recent days had seen "an exceptional rise in water flow through the Euphrates River, with water flow reaching a peak of around 1,800 cubic metres per second.""
