"A streetwear sneaker drop organised by Vicinity at Place de la Republique turned chaotic in Paris on Sunday following last-minute changes to the event location and limited stock availability. Footage shows large crowds running through the square to get to the new location. Participants gathered around a distribution truck in the 19th arrondissement, while police monitored the situation on site. According to one attendee, confusion followed police intervention linked to the original plan. "This morning, [an organiser] told me the event would take place in another place in Paris, but after that, police said it was not possible. It's a trouble, so move on," the attendee explained. "All people are waiting at Place de la Republique, and after that, all people there ran to this address to get new shoes. [...] Some people have their shoes, but many did not. [...] It's not cool for us, but that's life," he continued. The event, branded 'Akimbo Exchange,' was promoted by Vicinity as a sneaker swap offering 200 pairs of Akimbo Lows in exchange for worn footwear, drawing hundreds of young participants to central Paris. Organisers had not initially confirmed a fixed address, instead directing attendees to Place de la Republique shortly before the event. Paris authorities later said they were reviewing the circumstances surrounding the gathering, citing concerns over a lack of crowd management."
