"A decommissioned Soviet Yak-40 passenger plane that had stood on the shores of Armenia's Lake Sevan for years has been transformed into a breath-taking art installation by Swiss artist Micha Hani, known by the pseudonym as Vierwind. Footage from May 14 shows Hani painting the aircraft's fuselage. Viewed from above, the artwork depicts Jesus Christ on the cross, with the plane's wings forming outstretched arms and the fuselage completing the shape of the cross. "This country is steeped in an incredible history and spirituality. There’s a certain depth that’s hard to put into words. Moreover, it’s the oldest Christian country. It was the ideal location for this work," Hani explained. According to Hani, the design was developed in Switzerland using precise measurements of the aircraft. Preparations took several months, and the painting itself took six days. One of the challenges was preserving the correct proportions of the image across the aircraft's surface. "Perhaps the greatest challenge was to capture the proportions as accurately as possible so that the image would look perfect from any angle as it wasn’t being painted on a flat surface, but on a complex shape of an aircraft," he said. Hani added that the aircraft itself played a key role in the project's concept, stating: "There was something both powerful and fragile about the plane. <...> Once we had taken all the necessary measurements, I knew it would work out." The artist said his goal is to make art accessible to a wider audience. He believes that public installations can engage people who rarely visit museums or galleries, while creating a special emotional connection between the artwork and its viewers."
