Sweet blooms - Russian confectioner turns marshmallows into lifelike floral bouquets

"In the Russian city of Voronezh, confectioner Anna Tveritneva is transforming marshmallows into a medium for floral art, crafting intricate edible bouquets that look indistinguishable from the real thing. Archive footage shows Tveritneva presenting beautifully crafted floral arrangements made from sugar buds before using them to decorate a cake. Video filmed in Moscow on Friday captures her leading a master-class on how to create edible peonies. "When I started working with marshmallow back in 2016, nobody had even heard of [marshmallow] floral art, that we can create bouquets," the confectioner recalled. "I discovered it on social media, when someone was trying to make their very first rose but, naturally, failed to do it. This didn’t stop us, and we set to work. I was there right from the start, so to say," she shared. It takes Anna about 10 minutes to create a peony, but assembling a full-scale marshmallow bouquet can take up to three days. Anna draws much of her inspiration from the work of professional florists and real flower arrangements. "We can take a real bouquet of fresh flowers and use it as a model to make marshmallow flowers. A bouquet of fresh flowers has more drawbacks, whereas a marshmallow one has nothing but advantages: it’s delicious, beautiful, lasts a long time and keeps well - the flowers’ lifetime is 14 days," she noted. In addition to producing her edible creations, Anna also teaches others the craft through online tutorials and in-person workshops. Looking ahead, she hopes to publish a specialised recipe book and to establish her own small-scale production facility."
