‘Domeng’ less likely to make landfall, to exit PAR Monday  —Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Domeng is less likely to make landfall as it was forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Monday afternoon, according to the state-run weather agency. At present, Domeng is moving north-northwestward over the sea east of Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 150kph, weather specialist Veronica Torres said. In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the hoisting of any wind signal over extreme Northern Luzon is also less likely. Domeng's trough or extension has already been bringing overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Central Luzon, Cagayan, and Isabela. “Domeng will continue to intensify until it reaches its peak intensity. Afterwards, it will steadily weaken but will remain as a typhoon throughout the forecast period,” Torres said. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, has been affecting Metro Manila, CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Bicol Region, MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) where cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms would prevail. The rest of the country would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, the state weather bureau Pagasa said.
