Into the glory! Reigning champions La Albiceleste begin journey to defend World Cup title

"A group of supporters gathered at the Argentine Football Association (AFA) training headquarters in Buenos Aires on Sunday morning to bid farewell to the national team as they departed for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Footage shows families standing in cold weather outside the Predio Lionel Andres Messi training complex, formerly known as the Ezeiza training ground, as the team bus arrived to collect members of the Argentina delegation. “We came to see them off to give them the best encouragement and for them to bring back the fourth World Cup trophy," a supporter said. "We are here because our faith is completely intact to win the fourth and to support the players. We came with the family, and even if it is cold, we will always be there for the national team," another added. The travelling delegation includes domestic and South American-based players, coaching staff, and federation officials departing from Ezeiza International Airport. Among those on the bus were Nicolas Otamendi, Julian Alvarez, Enzo Fernandez, Leandro Paredes, Gonzalo Montiel, Valentin Barco, Thiago Almada, and Flaco Lopez, among others. Players based abroad or already in North America will join the squad directly at the team's base camp, including captain Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul travelling from Miami, as well as Emiliano 'Dibu' Martínez and Lisandro Martínez arriving from England. The team's flight from Buenos Aires is headed to Kansas City, which will serve as Argentina’s official base during the tournament, with training scheduled to begin at the Sporting Kansas City facility on Monday. La Albiceleste, the reigning world champions, will use Kansas City as their preparation hub before a friendly against Honduras on June 6 in Texas, ahead of their World Cup opener against Algeria on June 17."
