"Thousands of demonstrators marched through Madrid on Sunday to protest against the region's healthcare policies and the sector's privatisation. "There is nothing more important than health. It is the most important thing. When you fall ill, who provides your healthcare? Public healthcare. They want everyone to go private because it is a business. I simply do not understand the people who are not out here in the streets," a protester said. Footage shows protesters carrying banners reading 'No cuts to healthcare,' 'More healthcare workers, urgently needed,' and 'They privatise to deceive,' as they marched through the streets. One of the demonstrators was seen dressed as the Grim Reaper, holding a placard reading: “I am Madrid’s healthcare plan. I’m waiting for you!” Participants said the crisis affects all social groups and is not limited to a political divide, arguing that access to healthcare is becoming increasingly difficult due to capacity shortages. “Public healthcare should be as good as, or even better than, private healthcare,” one demonstrator said, stressing that many working families cannot afford private treatment. Another protester said the issue goes beyond ideology and affects everyday life across Spain. “It is not a matter of left or right. When you go to the doctor, they do not ask which party you belong to,” they said. “They simply cannot treat you because they do not have the capacity.” Others called for urgent hiring of healthcare staff and warned of growing waiting lists and pressure on emergency services. “It is always important to take to the streets so that people understand the problem we have,” one participant said. “This affects all of us.” The march took place under the motto 'Let's save our public health' and followed last week's march which drew tens of thousands."
