Colombia decides its future - Candidate Ivan Cepeda casts his vote under heavy security in Bogota during presidential elections

"The presidential candidate of the Historical Pact, Ivan Cepeda, cast his vote this Sunday at the San Lucas School in Bogota, as part of the electoral day that will determine the next president of Colombia for the 2026-2030 term. The images show Cepeda arriving at the voting center under a broad security arrangement. Upon his arrival, the candidate greeted supporters waiting for him near the electoral precinct before heading to the voting table. Subsequently, Cepeda handed over his identification document to the voting jurors, registered his fingerprint, and received the ballot to cast his vote. Likewise, the presidential candidate showed the ballot to the media and deposited it in the corresponding ballot box. Ivan Cepeda is a senator of the Republic and has a long history as a human rights defender. Throughout his political career, he has been linked to leftist movements, initiatives related to peacebuilding, historical memory, and transitional justice. His government program, called "The Power of Truth," proposes transformations in economic, political, and ethical areas, with proposals focused on fighting corruption, agrarian reform, expanding social rights, and consolidating peace. According to the National Registry, more than 41 million Colombians are eligible to vote in these elections, both within the country and abroad. To win the Presidency in the first round, a candidate must obtain more than 50 percent of the valid votes. If none reach that threshold, the two candidates with the highest votes will face off in a second round scheduled for June 21, in which the next president of Colombia will be determined. The current president, Gustavo Petro, is not participating in these elections because the Colombian Constitution prohibits immediate presidential reelection."
