"Colombian security forces reported that the presidential election day is proceeding without any serious incident on Sunday. At least seven people have been arrested across the country for alleged electoral crimes. Manager of the Democracy Plan and director of Protection and Special Services of the National Police, Mauricio Rico, issued a report in which he ruled out events that would compromise citizen participation in the elections. "So far we have not had any incidents that affect the development of the electoral event. Similarly, no incidents affecting citizen security," he explained in a message shared by the Ministry of Defense. The official explained that of the seven detainees, five were arrested in the city of Popayan, department of Cauca, after a citizen complaint alerted a possible irregularity. In this act, 1,032,000 pesos, equivalent to 284 US dollars, was seized. "Police personnel are dispatched and locate five people in a public place, from whom one million and 32,000 pesos, some cell phones, and stickers as if they were payment receipts were seized," he noted. Another person was arrested in the city of Valledupar for alleged fraudulent voting, after reportedly casting their vote at two different polling stations. A seventh person was arrested for the alleged crime of voter coercion, having recommended citizens to vote for one of the 13 candidates. All detainees were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities. The Police also launched an operation called 'Hunter Plan', focused on locating people with current judicial orders for different crimes. "In this way, we report that so far five people have been captured for different crimes by judicial order, including sexual abuse, homicide, qualified theft, illegal possession of weapons, and conspiracy to commit a crime," added Mauricio Rico. The successor to President Gustavo Petro will be chosen to serve for the 2026-2030 term. More than 246,000 men and women of the Public Force have been deployed throughout the country in order to guarantee the integrity of the vote. "
