Final countdown - Voting officials tally up ballots in Bogota as Colombian presidential election results take shape

"Hundreds of election officials performed the manual counting of votes at Corferias, the largest voting centre in Bogota, after the polls closed at 4:00 PM local time across Colombia on Sunday. Footage shows hundreds of officials opening ballot boxes to count each vote cast by citizens and destroying unused ballots. According to the Registry Office, more than 41 million Colombians were eligible to vote in this first presidential round, while more than 850,000 citizens were appointed as jurors to ensure the integrity of the electoral process throughout the country. The National Registrar reiterated through social media that the process is being conducted publicly and under the permanent supervision of electoral witnesses and control bodies. He also announced that the Registry Office will make available to the public the electoral records of each of the voting tables installed. According to information from the Colombian registry, more than 99 percent of the votes had been received from the 122,230 voting tables installed throughout the territory, at the time of publication. Regarding turnout, 23,911,588 of the 41,421,973 eligible voters cast their ballots. With more than 43 percent of the votes, the candidate for the 'Defenders of the Homeland' movement, Abelardo de la Espriella, was in the lead in the race for president, while Jose Manuel Restrepo was ahead in the polls for vice president, at the time of publication."
