"The Spain men’s national football team held an open training session in Madrid on Sunday as preparations intensified ahead of their upcoming international friendly against Iraq. Head coach Luis de la Fuente oversaw the session, briefing the squad before players went through warm-up drills, stretching routines and tactical exercises in front of fans and media. Among those taking part were Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, Pedri, Rodri, Dani Olmo and goalkeeper Unai Simon, with several players later stopping to sign autographs and interact with supporters after training. The game against Iraq is expected to be used by the coaching staff to test tactical variations and squad depth ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, which takes place from 11 June to 19 July 2026 across the United States, Canada and Mexico, with an expanded 48-team format. Spain, who are among the favourites to lift the trophy, will open their campaign against Saudi Arabia, followed by matches against Cape Verde and Uruguay."
