Bonoan rushed to hospital over ‘near stroke’ — Remulla

MANILA, Philippines — Former Public Works chief Manuel Bonoan was rushed to the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNPGH) on Monday due to high blood pressure after he was served an arrest warrant in connection with the plunder charges against him. “Secretary Bonoan is on his way to the hospital because his hypertension was listed at 192/100. He will be kept there for an undetermined amount of time before he stabilizes until the doctor says he is fit to stand trial. He will be brought to the Sandiganbayan,” Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla told reporters in a briefing at Camp Crame. “Full security po siya at hindi po siya makakalabas at restricted access papunta sa kanya,” Remulla added. Meanwhile, Remulla also gave an update Sen. Jinggoy Estrada who was likewise ordered arrested by the anti-graft court for plunder. “He started with the finger print, then he went through the mugshot and medical clearance. Tinapos muna silang tatlo. Nung natapos yung tatlo. We decided na si Secretary Bonoan was not fit to go the Sandigan, dun na siya dineretso sa ospital (he was rushed to the hospital),” Remulla said. Remulla clarified that Bonoan is currently under hospital arrest but has not been indicted yet. “We will wait for his indictment before he is formally charged. He was arrested but he was not demanded by the court to go to the hospital, it was our decision. Imminent na ‘yung stroke niya eh (His stroke was imminent) at 192. So it was our decision na dalhin muna siya roon bago siya i-transport papuntang Sandigan (to take him to the hospital before transporting him to the Sandiganbayan), Remulla said.
