The Asus ROG Ally X20 Finally Gets The Upgrade Fans Have Been Asking For

Computex week has officially kicked off, and Asus has debuted the ROG Xbox Ally X20 at the annual expo. While the inner hardware remains mostly the same as last year's ROG Xbox Ally, the big difference with this model is its new OLED screen, a body constructed from a translucent plastic shell, GuliKit TMR joysticks that are drift-resistant, an eight-direction D-pad, and more tweaks under the hood. For the screen, Asus has installed a 7.4-inch 120Hz OLED 1080p display. It can reach 1,400 nits of brightness in HDR mode and supports Dolby Vision. It has a certified VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 1000, making this a substantial upgrade over the LCD screen currently inside the 2025 ROG Xbox Ally X. For comparison, last year's screen is a 7-inch 1080p 120Hz IPS display capable of reaching 500 nits of brightness, which isn't too shabby. Still, the new OLED screen clearly has better stats on paper, especially when compared to the Steam Deck (1,280 x 800 90Hz refresh rate) and Switch (1,280 x 720) OLED displays. OLED screens generally allow for more vibrant images and the deepest of black colors, and with Dolby Vision, games should be a sight to behold if everything is optimized properly. Another change on this model is the removal of the "Library" button in favor of an "action" button that can be used for grabbing snapshots and footage of your gameplay. Like modern Xbox and PlayStation controllers, it takes a screenshot when you tap it, and starts recording gameplay when you hold it down. Physically, the X20 is slightly larger than last year's Asus handheld, and it's now 41 grams heavier. The ABXY face buttons also sit more flush with the shell, and the body has been tweaked to allow more fresh air through to keep it cool. One thing Asus hasn't revealed yet is the price, but according to The Verge , it'll be sold exclusively as part of a bundle with a pair of Asus and Xreal's R1 glasses. The AR glasses alone cost $849, and at a time when PC gaming handhelds are increasing astronomically in price , it remains to be seen just how much the upgraded X20 will cost. So far, Microsoft and Asus haven't raised the price of the ROG Ally X or the lower-specced ROG Ally, but with an AI-fueled demand for chips and other global factors, a price hike might be inevitable. An ROG Ally currently starts at $600 for the entry-level device, while the higher-end ROG Ally X starts at $1,000. If you haven't checked it out yet, the Asus ROG Ally X is one of the better PC gamin g handhelds on the market right now. A combination of powerful hardware, clever design revisions, and a handy Xbox mode makes for a versatile gaming device that you can take on the go. The Best PC Games To Play In 2026 View Images
