Baldur's Gate 2 Is Reportedly Getting The Remake Treatment With One Of The Original BioWare Lead Designers Returning

Baldur's Gate II is reportedly getting the remake treatment, according to PC Gamer , and former BioWare and Baldur's Gate II lead designer Kevin Martens is returning for it. The publication also reports that it has heard from its sources that the first Baldur's Gate is likely to be getting a remake, too. Martens is already working with Wizards of the Coast for the upcoming sci-fi RPG, Exodus , which looks to be filling gaming's Mass Effect -sized hole when it launches in early 2027. Considering Wizards of the Coast also owns the Baldur's Gate IP, this isn't a surprising return for the developer. According to PC Gamer , Martens is already working on the Baldur's Gate 2 remake, which makes sense since he's technically just contributing to the development of Exodus and is not a full-time developer at studio Archetype Entertainment. Though it's all but guaranteed that Wizards of the Coast is working to get a team on a theoretical Baldur's Gate 4, considering Baldur's Gate 3 has sold more than 20 million copies since its 2023 launch, it's possible the next taste of this D&D world could be this Baldur's Gate II remake, though there's no word on when it's planned for. Larian Studios, which developed Baldur's Gate 3, has made clear it is done with the Baldur's Gate IP , despite wishing it could port the game to Nintendo Switch 2 – it's currently working on Divinity , a new take on its Divinity series that looks disgustingly bloody and terrifying . Elsewhere in the world of Baldur's Gate, Craig Mazin, the showrunner of HBO's The Last of Us , is working on a TV adaptation of Baldur's Gate 3 that will continue the game's story , and this September, a prequel novel about the game's beloved vampire titled "Baldur's Gate 3: Astarion" will hit store shelves .
