"Hundreds of protesters rallied in the Kenyan town of Nanyuki on Monday to oppose plans to establish an Ebola quarantine facility for American citizens exposed to the virus. Footage shows demonstrators marching through the streets, waving Kenyan flags and chanting slogans. Security forces were deployed to oversee the protest, as scenes showed burning barricades before firefighters moved in to extinguish the blazes. "We are protesting for the dignity of Nanyuki town, we are protesting to restore order in Nanyuki town, and we are here, every one of us today, to protest against the Ebola quarantine that has been imposed by the American government and Kenyan government," said protester Patrick Wahome. "We are asking the American government, we as the people of Kenya, any agreement that you enter with President William Ruto, that agreement is null and void, and we don't want to be part of it," another protester, Charles Iganji, added. US officials said that the United States was planning to send Americans exposed to Ebola abroad to a new facility in Kenya instead of flying them back to the United States, at the Laikipia Air Base according to media reports. The protests come three days after Kenya's High Court suspended the facility's establishment and barred the arrival of any foreign patients pending the hearing of a petition filed by the Law Society of Kenya and a constitutional watchdog group. An Ebola outbreak was declared by the DRC and Uganda on May 15, after laboratory tests confirmed Bundibugyo virus disease. WHO named it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on May 17. According to local authorities, there are 125 confirmed cases and 17 confirmed deaths in the DRC, alongside nine cases and one death in neighbouring Uganda. The DRC has also over 1,000 suspected cases and at least 246 suspected deaths."
