'Sovereignty', not 'artificial' solutions! - Serb BiH leader as Costa urges Sarajevo to speed up reforms for EU accession

"European Council President Antonio Costa urged the leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina to speed up the reform agenda critical to advancing the country's accession process to the European Union (EU), in Sarajevo on Monday. "If you deliver on the alignment with the EU legislation, gradual integration in the European single market will benefit your citizens and businesses already before accession," Costa stated during a joint press conference with BiH chairs, Denis Becirovic and Zeljka Cvijanovic. "In this time of global geopolitical uncertainty and economic instability, more than an opportunity, enlargement is a geostrategic interest for Europe," he added. He added that Bosnia and Herzegovina had already 'lost' €108 million ($125.64 million) in EU funding and warned that a further 373 million euros ($434 million dollars) were at risk in the coming months if the necessary measures are not implemented. In response, Zeljka Cvijanovic, Serb Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said: “I told Mr Costa that I advocate the principle of sovereignty, meaning that Bosnia and Herzegovina, in accordance with the Constitution and applicable laws, should adopt all solutions and regulate everything that is necessary in the country, and not in some other artificial way." Costa is on a tour of all six Western Balkan countries from June 1-5, where he is expected to meet regional leaders and co-chair the EU–Western Balkans Summit in Montenegro on Friday."
