The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on Monday condemned an attack by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in the eastern city of Beni, which killed 15 civilians and one soldier, reported Xinhua. The attack took place on Sunday in the Ngadi neighborhood, north of Beni, in the eastern North Kivu Province, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Communication and Media. The government said several houses were also affected during what it described as a "criminal incursion" by the ADF, adding that the fight against the ADF remains an "absolute priority." According to the DRC government, defense and security forces are continuing operations to track down the attackers, strengthen the protection of civilians and secure affected areas. The ADF, an affiliate of the Islamic State in Central Africa, is a Ugandan rebel group operating in eastern DRC. Its continued activity has prompted joint military operations by Congolese and Ugandan forces since November 2021 to track and neutralize the group.
