NBI files ethics charge complaint vs lawmaker for 'Senate assassination' claim

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation has filed an ethics complaint against controversial Cavite 4th District Rep. Francisco Barzaga at the House of Representatives on Tuesday. NBI Director Melvin Matibag personally filed the complaint at the office of House Secretary-General Cheloy Garafil. Matibag said that the complaint stemmed from several social media posts of Barzaga where he claimed there was an attempt at the NBI to assassinate senators during the standoff held last May 13. "There are nine posts that we have validated on his account, he is accusing the members of the NBI to attempt an assassination at the Senate," Matibag told reporters. In a facebook post, Barzaga claimed that the complaint was filed by Matibag on orders from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. "Inutusan ni Marcos ang NBI na mag file ng Ethics Complaint laban sakin, mukhang naapektuhan siya sa pagbaba ng trust ratings niya, (Marcos ordered the NBI to file an ethics complaint against me. Looks like he is affected in the decrease of his trust ratings)," Barzaga said.
